What Is Acupunсture?

Acupuncture in Clifton

Acupuncture definition is based on a holistic medical treatment which has evolved into an effective system for whole health and wellness. Alongside techniques like aromatherapy in Clifton, acupuncture at Pulse Acupuncture Clifton promotes natural healing through insertion of tiny needles that activate Qi energy throughout the body to help achieve balance within the body and mind. The basis of all traditional Chinese acupuncture is energy. This energy is the force that engulfs every cell. All our cells and tissues conduct and transfer energy through protein molecules, giving us life. This energetic source flows throughout every aspect of our body, invigorating our organs and powering the processes that link them as well. This electromagnetic force directs every chemical and hormonal release.

In the human body, Qi manifests in several different ways. Qi is a kind of bioelectrical force that flows throughout the body, carried by an extensive network of 14 channels called “meridians”. These meridians are invisible to the naked eye, yet they have been mapped out over the course of thousands of years of observation and experimentation by TCM acupuncture physicians. As electrical energy flows from one place to the other, it encounters resistance that builds up from the channels it’s flowing through. When a metal needle which is an excellent conductor of electricity, inserted into an acupuncture point, a resistance is decreased promoting the flow of energy along that meridian. Since the meridian connects a whole series of tissues and organs, an acupuncture point on the leg or arm can regulate the energy through different organs. The meridian pathway flows to provide nourishment to every cell, organ, gland, muscle and tissue in the body. TCM acupuncture is painless, utilizing thin, hair-like needles that are placed at strategic energetic points to activate natural, self-healing abilities of the body. Acupuncture points along the affected meridians will correct the normal flow of Qi and will restore your health and balance.

I was a patient of Marina Doktorma for about two weeks (October/November 2020), receiving acupuncture treatments for lower back and knee pain. Marina is a true professional. Before beginning each treatment, she explained the treatment options and made sure that I was well informed and comfortable before beginning. She was very gentle as she administered the treatments, (I feel asleep a few times) communicating with me throughout the process. In addition to the premise being very clean, relaxing music made for a very calming experience. Without hesitation, I would return for future treatments if the pain returns. Kenny.

Pulse Acupuncture - FAQ

Acupuncture is a method of encouraging the body to promote natural healing and to improve functioning. This is done by inserting needles and stimulating the specific points. Traditional acupuncture is a heeling art and science which teaches how to see the entire human being in body minded spirit, how to recognize the process of health and illness and how to go about the restoration of lost health in an individual.
According to Oriental Medical theory, the body has 12 meridians through which energy or Qi flows. Excess, deficient or obstructed Qi causes pain and dysfunction. The meridians can be influenced by needling acupuncture points. Acupuncture unblocks the obstruction and reestablishes the regular flow through meridians. Acupuncture treatments can therefore help the internal organs to correct imbalances in their digestion, absorption and energy flow through meridians. The improved energy and biochemical balance produced by acupuncture results in stimulating the body’s natural healing abilities, and in promoting physical and emotional well-being.
The World Health Organization has confirmed that acupuncture is effective for treating the following: Musculoskeletal disorder, nervous system
  • Lower back pain and sciatica, hip and joint disorders
  • Frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, knee pain, sprains and strains
  • Osteoarthritis, numbness of fingers
  • Headaches, migraines
  • Partial weakness after stroke, inflammation of nerve endings
Gastrointestinal disorders
  • Digestive track problems, hiccups
  • Diarrhea, constipation
Cardiovascular disorders
  • Heart problems
  • High blood pressure
Gynecological and urological disorders
  • PMS, irregular menstruation
  • Premenstrual cramps
  • Infertility
  • Incontinence
Respiratory disorders
  • Asthma
  • Common cold and cough
  • Allergies
Acupuncture can also help treat stress, depression, chronic fatigue and insomnia. Cosmetic acupuncture stimulates facial muscles and decreases appearance of wrinkles, promotes blood circulation, restores collagen, and improves facial complexion and vitality.
That depends upon the nature of the problem, the location of the points selected, patient’s size, age, constitution. Usually needles are inserted from ¼ to 1 inch in depth.
Generally, it is a safe and painless procedure. When the correct stimulus has been obtained, the patients should feel some tingling, heaviness, warming sensation either around the needle or traveling up or down the affected meridian, or energy pathway.
