About the Clinic

Our practice has grown in Clifton community since 2004. A second location was opened in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY in March of 2023. The treatment will begin after a detailed evaluation by going over your health concerns and history, reviewing your labs, x-rays, MRIs and performing orthopedic testing as needed. During the evaluation, an examination of your tongue and radial wrist pulses will be taken. This is principal diagnostic method in Traditional Chinese Medicine. The pulses, and tongue’s body, including color, shape, tongue’s coating provide valuable information about the condition of person’s health. Once the diagnosis is being established, a treatment will be created to correct your pattern of imbalance. Acupuncture and other modalities will be part of your ongoing treatment plan which will also include a discussion on lifestyle changes, diet, exercise to help you restore your health and stay healthy. The treatment lasts one hour. Essential oils, cupping, Gua-sha, light massage, infra-red light therapy and onnetsu therapy will be included within each acupuncture session.

In the human body, Qi manifests in several different ways. Qi is a kind of bioelectrical force that flows throughout the body, carried by an extensive network of 14 channels called “meridians”. These meridians are invisible to the naked eye, yet they have been mapped out over the course of thousands of years of observation and experimentation by TCM acupuncture physicians. As electrical energy flows from one place to the other, it encounters resistance that builds up from the channels it’s flowing through. When a metal needle which is an excellent conductor of electricity, inserted into an acupuncture point, a resistance is decreased promoting the flow of energy along that meridian. Since the meridian connects a whole series of tissues and organs, an acupuncture point on the leg or arm can regulate the energy through different organs. The meridian pathway flows to provide nourishment to every cell, organ, gland, muscle and tissue in the body. TCM Acupuncture is painless, utilizing thin, hair-like needles that are placed at strategic energetic points to activate natural, self-healing abilities of the body. Acupuncture points along the affected meridians will correct the normal flow of Qi and will restore your health and balance.

I was a patient of Marina Doktorma for about two weeks (October/November 2020), receiving acupuncture treatments for lower back and knee pain. Marina is a true professional. Before beginning each treatment, she explained the treatment options and made sure that I was well informed and comfortable before beginning. She was very gentle as she administered the treatments, (I feel asleep a few times) communicating with me throughout the process.
